What is a candidate?

You’re familiar with candidates- you probably speak with them every week, if not multiple times a day! But what does it mean to see a candidate in the Carv platform?

How do candidates get created?

There are several ways to create a candidate in Carv (some methods are available to you as a user, and other times Carv will go ahead and create candidates on your behalf when we detect a candidate’s data). You can read an in-depth explainer about how candidates are created in Carv here.

What’s the purpose of having a candidate in Carv?

Carv serves as a home for all of your candidate’s data- both structured and unstructured. You’re probably used to (and tired of!) entering structured candidate data in your ATS and the endless fields there. But Carv can ingest all of a candidate’s structured and unstructured data (like the kind we collect during your interviews), enabling our powerful AI workflows that automate your administrative work.

Okay- but how does that ^^ actually work? How do I add data to a candidate in Carv?

Carv takes intelligent steps to automatically link your interview meetings to candidates, and for customers with an ATS integration, pull important documents from the ATS into the candidate’s profile in Carv. You are also able to manually add and upload as many source materials to a candidate as you see fit. You can read an in-depth explanation of how to add data to a Carv candidate here.

How do I create a profile and/or presentation for a candidate in Carv?

Once a candidate has at least one piece of data (usually an interview meeting, but could also be a resume) in their Carv profile, you’ll see that there are two buttons on that candidate’s profile page: “Candidate profile” and “Candidate presentation”.

- The candidate profile will generate an objective overview of the candidate based on all the source materials you’ve uploaded. This output will make it easier for you to evaluate the candidate at-a-glance before deciding to move them forward in your hiring process or not.

- The candidate presentation will generate a positive pitch of the candidate, highlighting their strengths and suitability for the vacancy at hand. This output will make it easier for you to present this candidate to your hiring manager and/or any other stakeholder in the hiring process for your vacancy.

Once you’ve decided which output is most appropriate for you, simply click the relevant button and Carv’s AI will go to work generating the document based on all the structured and unstructured candidate data you have provided. It typically takes our AI less than a minute to generate such a document.

When Carv’s AI is finished, you can access the document from the same button you clicked to generate it. On the document’s page, you have full editing capabilities to ensure the output is 100% tailored to your needs.

What else can I do with a candidate in Carv?

Carv AI doesn’t start and end with document generation- we also encourage you to take advantage of your new AI Colleague.

On the left-hand side of each candidate’s profile, you’ll find an AI Colleague who has access to all the sources you’ve linked and uploaded to the candidate.

You can use the text field with "Ask anything..." of the AI Colleague to ask follow-up questions about the candidate (“What are the key responsibilities in their current role?”), for help on any task related to the candidate (“Help me write a follow-up email to my hiring manager about this candidate”, or just about anything else you could use a helping hand with.

Your AI Colleague considers all task history when answering a question. So if there's already some back and forth between you and the AI Colleague, your Colleague will treat your question as a follow-up question, taking previous tasks, questions, and answers into account.

If you don't want the Colleague to follow-up on a previous task or question but instead want to start afresh with a new Open question, you click on the 'New Task' button at the top-right.
