Wondering how candidates are created in the Carv platform? There are several ways in which users can create candidates, as well as a few automated methods the Carv platform itself takes to proactively create a candidate.

Read on below to understand each method of creating a candidate in Carv. Note that some methods of candidate-creation are only available to customers that have integrated their ATS with our platform.

Manually

It’s always possible to create a candidate yourself, and add all of their identifying information and source materials directly into their profile.

1. Visit the “Candidate Overview” page by clicking on the person icon on the left-hand navigation bar.

2. Click the “Add candidate” button on the top left of the candidate list.

3. Start typing your candidate’s email address. While you do this, Carv will search your existing candidate pool to check that you are not creating a candidate that is already in your system!

4. Once you’ve entered the candidate’s email address, and Carv has verified that this is a new candidate in your system, you’ll be prompted to enter the candidate’s name. Type in the candidate’s full name and click “Continue”

5. That’s it! Your candidate is now created, and you’ll see them at the top of your candidate overview list. You can click on that candidate’s row in the list to visit their profile page to start adding their source materials and creating their fact sheet and/or presentation.

Automated candidate detection

Carv intelligently detects candidates via the interviews you conduct through our platform.

For interviews that are scheduled on your calendar, Carv searches the participant list on the interview meeting invite. If Carv finds one participant whose email domain does not match your email domain, Carv will assume this participant is a candidate and create a candidate automatically for that email address.

For interviews conducted over the phone, Carv will assume that the phone number you are dialing is the candidate’s phone number, and will create a candidate automatically for this phone number.

After you complete your interview (on a virtual meeting or over the phone), you’ll find a candidate profile for the candidate you just spoke with, and the interview meeting will already be added to their profile as the candidate’s first piece of source material.

For users with an ATS integration

If you’re using Carv with an ATS integration, then both of these methods of candidate creation are available to you. However, Carv will take extra steps to ensure that if a candidate also exists in your ATS, their information and source materials are promptly synced to the Carv platform. This ensures you’re always working with the most up-to-date data for this candidate when you create their profile and/or presentation, or when you ask the AI colleague about the latest on the candidate.

1. When you create a candidate manually, as you’re typing the candidate’s email address, Carv will search through your ATS to find candidates who match that email address. If Carv finds a match, we’ll automatically pull in all their information and source materials to create the candidate in Carv.

2. When you have a scheduled interview meeting on your calendar, or when you interview a candidate over the phone, Carv will automatically go through your ATS to find any candidates who match the email address/phone number of the candidate you are interviewing via Carv. If Carv finds a match, once you’ve completed the interview you’ll find that candidate is already created in Carv and their profile is completely updated with information from your ATS and the interview you just had.
